Have done two fail attempts that we ate but wasnt wow. They are not eager for me to use it again. So this slower cooker has not paid for it self yet.

Dear Des. Try doing a stew in it, put all the ingredients into the Slow Cooker with water or stock and put it on low and let it cook over night. There is one cookbook called Easy Slow Cooker Cookbook itis by Barbara C Jones, you can get it at the post office if they have any or at any of the cheap stores. It has recipes from Appetisers through to Desserts. I hope this helps you. |

Dear Des,
I use the packet mixes in my slow cooker. McCormick brand, the chicken curry and mediterain chicken are great. Also makes good soups. As above there are heaps of recipe books out now for slow cookers as well. |

Lazy Lasagne
I find that this is better made the day before as I find getting it out of the pot when it is still hot difficult. If you cook it the day before and let it cool you can remove it easily and reheat it in the microwave when needed. Also good for freezing for eating on those nights when you can't be bothered cooking. Looks a bit gross when you first start cooking it but by the time the 8 hours is up it looks amazing.
Serves 4-6 people
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 x 400g can diced tomatoes in juice
1 x 30g pk tomato soup, or tomato and onion soup mix
500g lean beef mince
¼ cup tomato paste
1 tsp each dried basil and oregano
2tsp instant beef stock
1 cup hot water
250g dried lasagne sheets broken to fit your slow cooker
Topping:
2tsp cornflour
1 large egg
¾ cup milk, sour cream or a mixture
1 cup grated tasty cheese
Paprika (optional)
Turn the slow cooker on to Hight to preheat and coat the bowl with non stick spray.
Put the garlic and tomatoes with juice into food processor or large bowl and process or mash with fork to break up the tomatoes. Add the soup mix, minced beef, tomato paste, herbs, stock and water, then process or mix well till combined.
Spread one third of the meat mixture evenly over the bottom of the slow cooker bowl, place half the lasagne noodles over the meat. Repeat the layering with another ½ of the meat mixture, the remaining pasta then cover with the remaining meat mixture (you may like to keep a bit more than a third of the meat mixture for the top layer).
To make the topping, mix together the cornflour, egg, milk (and or sour cream) and cheese. Pour this over everything in the slow cooker and sprinkle with the paprika (if using)
Turn the slow cooker to Low and cook for 8-9 hours. Serve with green salad or cooked vegetables and garlic bread. |

I find the food cooked in slow cooker, whilst incredibly tender has a strange taste which I don't like (kind of like strangely melted fat). The sauce is quite watery too. I choose not to use pre packet mixes and cans of soup for the preservatives and glutimate (forms of msg) and this doesn't leave room for much creativity. My rich oven slow cooked beef casserole wins hands down. |

This is a cheap and easy recipe I use, buy some flavoured chicken wingettes (in the deli section of the supermarket, I buy Honey & Soy flavoured) then layer chopped vegies of your choice then pour over a tin of coconut milk and let it cook away. |

I made the Slow cooked Chinese Chicken (from this site's Recipe File) yesterday in the slow cooker and it was awesome - the kids loved it. We have used our slow cooker a lot, but this is the first time I have cooked a whole chicken in it like that. The Dollar Stretcher website has someone called Chet who has some interesting recipes, today I am making red beans and rice from that site in my slow cooker - like Rose I stay away from any slow cooker recipes that call for cans of soup or packets of dry soup mix as I think they are unhealthy and not the point of a slow cooker. Also remember that a slow cooker cannot brown your food, so anything that needs to be browned first, ie meat, onions etc, will still need to be started in a pan and then transferred to the cooker. It is great for making vegetarian recipes like dal or bean soups. |

I have just got a slow cooker off trademe, used it once so far and it was good. I used one of the packet mixes (Beef and Red Wine Casserole). I did a larger amount of meat than the recipe on the packet (it's a big cooker), so I added some beef stock as well. Came out excellent, very tasty! Interested by the chicken and coconut milk recipe here, too. Des, I have just found a website with lots of easy recipes, called Slow and Simple (www.slowandsimple.com) which has lots of tips on getting the best out of the cooker, and loads of recipes. Good luck! |

I bought "Slow Cooker - easy and delicious recipes for all seasons" by Sally Wise at the ABC bookshop. It is brilliant! The other books I have seen are all american and called for a can of this and a packet of that. This book requires fresh veges, some sauces (eg, soy, worsteschire) and fresh meat. It has recipes for beef, lamb, chicken, pork , vegetarian and dessert. I mainly use the beef ones, a few chicken ones and my family LOVES the homemade baked beans!
I highly recommend this book, I use it several times a week and I don't remember what I did before I found it! |

You can also cook risotto in a slow cooker - I use the same recipe as for on the stovetop. Remember to have your stock HOT when you put it in. Then put the slow cooker on slow and cook for approx 2 hrs - you will need to check it closer to the time to see if it's cooked/moist but not dried out yet. It's a much simpler way of cooking risotto as you don't have to stand and stir! |
